Computers

Your library offers a well-equipped Computer Center
available to all library patrons.

Computer Lab

Thirty-one computer stations, each with an AMD Phenom 64 processor
and 2 gigabytes of memory, running
Microsoft Windows Vista (Business) with Service Pack 2.
Thirteen of our computers are equipped with 22" widescreen
monitors, the others have standard-ratio 19" flatscreen monitors.

Our computers are equipped with personal headphones for private listening, and a DVD drive and software to watch DVDs
or listen to music CDs. Front USB ports allow easy copying
of personal data to USB "thumb drives" or "flash drives".
Ask the Library Staff for assistance if you have problems getting your device to be recognized by the computer.

All computers are equipped with CAC card readers in the keyboard,
and ActiveClient card reader software to access Air Force Portal,
Army Knowledge Online, My Pay, and other official military websites.

However, our computers are not on a military (".mil") network,
so some functions such as Digital Signatures may not be available.

Internet

All library computers are connected to High Speed Internet
provided by Suddenlink Communications.
Connection speeds are usually very good, but high-bandwidth activities such as streaming video can occasionally slow down the system.

Please try to limit high-bandwidth acitivities
to quieter periods in the Library.

Each computer is loaded with the latest versions of
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.
Internet Favorites, shortcuts to popular websites such as
MyPay, Facebook, YouTube, and Google Mail
are loaded in each web browser's shortcut menu.

Software

Microsoft Office 2007 software enables patrons to create
word processing documents, spreadsheets, or presentations for work, home, or school. Patrons may burn data to CD or DVD discs
(not provided) using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 software.

You will also find many more program, including the photo viewer IrfanView, the Photoshop-like photo editor GIMP, music and sound players including Windows MediaPlayer and Audacity and
educational software such as Google Earth and
Microsoft Worldwide Telescope.

Library Computers are also loaded with Adobe Acrobat Reader,
the Overdrive software for the Air Force Digital Media Library,
and the Lotus Forms 3.5 form filler program.

You will find shortcuts to all of these programs on the
computer desktop and in the Start Menu.
Ask the Library Staff if you need assistance
finding and using any of the software.

Security

Security is provided through Symantec Antivirus and
Microsoft Windows Defender software. Our network routers
are also equipped with hardware firewalls for even greater security.

The Library Computers feature Microsoft Steadystate software which removes all files and histories from the computer upon a reboot. If you have a file containing sensitive information on the computer and are unable to delete it, ask the Library Staff for assistance or simply click Start Menu -> Turn Off Computer -> Restart.

If you have any questions or concerns about Computer Security,
